Located at the heart of the Cauvery delta, Kodavasal was a prominent settlement during medieval times. This is one of the places made home by Brahmin scholars who migrated from the north to the Chola kingdom. One can find several Shaivite temples here including Koneswarar Temple and Vaishnavite temples here including the Srinivasa Perumal Temple and Varadharaja Perumal temple at Kodavasal. Since independence the general trend of migration of the native population to cities like Chennai and elsewhere, and subsequent settlement of Muslim population has resulted in a dramatic shift in the demographics of the region.
