Koni is a Bengali novel written by Moti Nandi.[1]

Plot

Koni is a young girl from a poor family; Khsitish Sinha is an experienced swimming coach. One day Khsitish sees Koni swimming and thinks she can be an excellent swimmer. Koni does not have the money to hire a coach. Khsitish decides to coach her for free but because his family is also not rich, he adopts her and puts her to work in a tailor shop. After struggling to learn how to properly swim competitively, Koni makes it onto the Bengal national swimming team. She is not selected to compete in any events until a team member is injured. Koni takes first place in the swimming competition.[2]

Adaptations

The novel was adapted into the movie Kony in 1984.[3]
