Kishore (name)
Kishore ([ˈraːm kɪʃoːr]) is an Anglo-Saxon/Indian name that has two meanings, overuse merged to be interchangeable. The first meaning is derived from Sanskrit language form the word "kishora" meaning "colt" or a "cub". It translates to "Young", "Youth" or "Adolescence" in English. The other meaning that merged with it during the time of British India originates from when its first bearer worked as a person who worked as a maker of cuishes, which were pieces of armor to protect the thigh, this being the Anglo-Saxon origin of the name.
In India, it can also be used to denote Son of (someone) similar to the English convention of attaching "son" to another name, creating names such as Carson, Anderson, and Benson. Due to this it is actually a caste-independent name.
Until quite recently, the English language has lacked a definite system of spelling rules. Consequently, Anglo-Saxon surnames are characterized by a multitude of spelling variations. Changes in Anglo-Saxon names were influenced by the evolution of the English language, as it incorporated elements of French, Latin, and other languages. Although Medieval scribes and church officials recorded names as they sounded, so it is common to find one person referred to by several different spellings of his surname, even the most literate people varied the spelling of their own names. Variations of the name Kishore include Kisher, Kisere, Kisha, Kishero, Kysher, Cushere, Kishere and many more.
Searching for a better life, many English families migrated to British colonies. Unfortunately, the majority of them traveled under extremely harsh conditions: overcrowding on the ships caused the majority of the immigrants to arrive diseased, famished, and destitute from the long journey across the ocean. For those families that arrived safely, modest prosperity was attainable, and many went on to make invaluable contributions to the development of the cultures of the new colonies. Research into the origins of individual families in North America revealed records of the immigration of a number of people bearing the name Kishore or a variant listed above: Ananias Krafft Kisher, who arrived in Pennsylvania in 1732; Christoph Kisher, who arrived in Pennsylvania in 1732; Christoff Kisher, who came to Philadelphia in 1732. Most of those with the name Kishore that emigrated went to British India.
