Name
The full Malay name for Katok 'B' is Skim Tanah Kurnia Rakyat Jati Kampung Mata-Mata, whereby "Skim Tanah Kurnia Rakyat Jati" (commonly abbreviated as STKRJ) is often translated as "Landless Indigenous Citizens' Housing Scheme".[1] The estate is named after the original villages of Katok and Mata-Mata.
"Katok 'B'" was initially the name for the first phase of the STKRJ housing estate developed in the area, in which it was then part of Katok. It is now known as Area 1 of STKRJ Mata-Mata, a village subdivision and separated from the latter.[2] However, STKRJ Mata-Mata initially referred to the STKRJ estate in Mata-Mata; the latter usage is now uncommon ever since it is administered as part of the Perpindahan Mata-Mata village.[2] "STKRJ Mata-Mata" now refers to the Katok 'B' housing estate instead.
Geography
Katok 'B' is located in the central part of Brunei-Muara District and in the western part on the outskirts of Bandar Seri Begawan, the capital of Brunei. It is contiguous with, and officially borders, Perpindahan Mata-Mata of the Mata-Mata settlement to the east.[2] Although Katok 'B' is named after Katok, they are not contiguous but nevertheless located in their vicinity.
Administration
The area of Katok 'B' is divided into three villages (Malay: kampung or kampong), the third- and lowest-level administrative divisions of Brunei. They are consequently among the village subdivisions under Gadong 'B', a mukim (subdistrict) of Brunei-Muara.[3] As a village, it thus has a village head (Malay: ketua kampung) as the leader of respective community.
Each village is also a designated postcode area and therefore has its own postcode.
