Kadungalloor

Kadungalloor is a census town, just 1km from Aluva Town, It is in Paravur Taluk, Ernakulam district in the Indian state of Kerala. The industrial estate of Muppathadam and Edayar is situated in this panchayat. Pottuvellari is widely cultivated in this panchayat. Panchayat consists of notable peoples in cultural and local arts. Famous personalities include actor Sathar,writer Sethu and award-winning Malayalam novelist Gracy. Recently Kadungallor panchayath, previously in Paravur Taluk joined Aluva Taluk. Muppathadam is the main Commercial Center of Kadungalloor.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census,[1] Kadungalloor had a population of 35,451. Males constitute 50% of the population and females 50%. Kadungalloor has an average literacy rate of 81%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 84%, and female literacy is 79%. In Kadungalloor, 11% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Kadungalloor had a population of 39,666 of which 19,852 are males while 19,814 are females as per report released by Census India 2011. Literacy rate of Kadungalloor city is 94.58% higher than state average of 94.00%. In Kadungalloor, Male literacy is around 96.48% while female literacy rate is 92.70%. 10.47% of the population is under 6 years of age.[2]

The nearest railway station is Aluva which is about 5 km from here. Cochin International Airport (CIAL) is only at a distance of 14 km.

Landmarks and attractions

Kadungalloor Panchayath is divided into East Kadungalloor and West Kadungalloor. The temple at Uliyannur, believed to be built by Perumthachan is sure to evoke the curiosity of devotees as well as archaeologists.

Shree Narasimha Swami Temple is the biggest temple in Kadungalloor and is situated at the starting of the panchayat. Many devotees come here and the temple is famous for its paal payasam (sweet drink prepared with milk and rice) and annual festival.

A new bridge has been opened near old Onjithode bridge, has reduced the congestion on the old bridge.A bypass road connecting to container terminal road starting from UC College Junction facilitating access to Ernakulam High Court Junction, helping passengers avoid heavy traffic through Aluva -Ernakulam Road that passes through Kadungalloor.

Kadungalloor Panchayath Office, Kadungalloor Village Office and Binanipuram Police Station are situated at Muppathadom. Kadungalloor Panchayath comes under both Alangad and Binanipuram Police Station Limits. Mangalodayam Library was renovated and opened to public recently.
