The club is named after the geographical area Prespa. The word "birlik" means unity in Turkish. The football club was founded by ethnic Swedish Turks of Yugoslavian Turkish descent born or living in Malmö and the surrounding areas with ancestral roots from the Prespa region in the Former Yugoslavia.[2]
Prespa Birlik currently plays in Division 2 Södra, which is the fourth tier of the Swedish football pyramid.[3] They play their home matches at Malmö Stadion.[1] The club is affiliated to Skånes Fotbollförbund.[4]
