Life and career
Raisen, a native of Massapequa, New York, now resides in Los Angeles where he owns a recording studio.[2][3]
Productions
Raisen's credits indicate his frequent use of live musicians in his productions. His collaborators include Pino Paladino, Jim Keltner, Joey Warnoker, Carla Azar, Patty Schemel, Jenny Lee, Justin Meldal-Johnson, Gus Seyffert, Roger Manning Jr., Victor Indrizzo, Stella Mozgawa, Nick Zinner, Henry Schiff, Stewart Bronaugh, Joe Kennedy, Eva Gardner, Dennis Hamm, & Duff McKagan.[4][5][6][7][8]
KRO Records
In 2019, Raisen launched his own record label, KRO Records, with Lawrence and Yves Rothman.[9] KRO's first release included two tracks from River Phoenix's band, Aleka's Attic, along with a single from Rain Phoenix featuring Michael Stipe.[10] This was followed by a Double A-Side Single, "Poison" by Marissa Nadler feat. John Cale of The Velvet Underground.[11] Other releases in 2019 included Kills Birds' self-titled debut LP, Buzzy Lee's (Sasha Spielberg) EP, "Close Encounters of Our Own Kind", and a single titled "Mother" by Courtney Love.[12][13][14] In 2020, KRO Records released Stephen Spielberg’s "The Turning" soundtrack under exclusive license to Sony Music Entertainment.[15] The film's soundtrack features tracks from Mitski, Kali Uchis, Soccer Mommy, Cherry Glazerr, Finn Wolfhard & Courtney Love.
Controversy
After the Lizzo single "Truth Hurts" reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2019, Raisen, alongside his brother Jeremiah, accused Lizzo of plagiarizing a line from his song "Healthy" and asked to receive songwriting credits.[16] Instead, Lizzo filed a lawsuit in order to receive a declaratory judgment blocking the Raisens from receiving any songwriting credits.[3] The Raisens responded in February 2020 by filing a counterclaim, asking to receive royalties and songwriting credits for the song.[17]
