Josias I, Count of Waldeck (18 March 1554 at Eisenberg Castle – 6 August 1588 at Eisenberg Castle), was a Count of Waldeck-Eisenberg.

Life

He was a son of Count Wolrad II of Waldeck-Eisenberg (1509–1578) and his wife Anastasia Günthera of Schwarzburg-Blankenburg (1526–1570).

He died on 6 August 1588 and was buried on 9 August in Korbach.

Marriage and issue

On 8 March 1582, he married Marie of Barby-Mühlingen (8 April 1563 – 29 December 1619), the daughter of Count Albert X of Barby-Mühlingen and his wife Marie of Anhalt-Zerbst. They had four children:

  • Margareta Anastasia (b. 1584)
  • Christian (25 December 1585 – 31 December 1637), married in 1604 to Elisabeth of Nassau-Siegen (8 November 1584 in Dillenburg – 26 July 1661 in Landau, now part of Bad Arolsen)
  • Juliana (11 April 1587 – 28 February 1622); married in 1606 to Count Louis I of Erbach-Erbach (1579–1643)
  • Wolrad IV (7 July 1588 – 6 October 1640); married in 1607 to Anna of Baden-Durlach (1587-1649). In 1625, he inherited the County of Pyrmont.
