Career

McGrotty was first spotted by Partick Thistle's scout Gus Black.[1] This led to the club's officials watching him play a match on 2 June 2010 in which they were impressed by his pace.[1] A week later on 8 June he signed a full-time professional contract along with Shaun Fraser.[1]

He quickly progressed through the Under-17 & Under-19 squads[2] culminating in him making his first senior appearance at the age of seventeen.[3] The match was a 2–0 home victory against Greenock Morton towards the latter part of the 2010–11 season with McGrotty entering the match as 88th-minute substitute.[4]

In June 2011 he was part of an under-19 side who won the Stonehouse Violet Challenge Cup.[5] Thistle beat Glasgow Perthshire 7–6 on penalties in the semi-final before defeating Stonehouse Violet 4–1 in the final with McGrotty scoring twice.[6] Having failed to feature during the 2011–12 season McGrotty was released on 1 June 2012.[7]

On 18 August 2016, McGrotty signed for Maryhill F.C. [8]
