Early life and education

Trevena attended the University of South Florida and Stetson University College of Law.[2] He became a police officer and then Assistant State Attorney in Hillsborough County, Florida.[15]

Personal life

Trevena divorced in 2019. Shortly after the divorce Trevena was arrested for domestic violence on March 11, 2019. His ex-wife Meredith recorded him with her cell phone. Trevena was jailed after the incident.[16][17] Prosecutors dropped the domestic battery case against Trevena on April 6, 2019.[18]

Trevena alleged that his wife Meredith Trevena was a drug user. The neighbors of John and Meredith Trevena filed a lawsuit against Trevena in May 2019 alleging terrible odors emanating from the Trevena property. In the lawsuit the neighbors stated: "Based upon the sworn statements of John Trevena, these sickening odors are the result of the use of methamphetamine and heroin and other illicit drugs." The neighbors eventually dropped the suit.[19]

Trevena went to court claiming that a former employee moved into the Trevena home and got his wife (Meredith Trevena) addicted to drugs. He also claimed that the former employee began stealing things from the home and forging checks from Trevena's law firm account. Trevena went to court to seek a protective order from the former employee and her boyfriend.[20] Trevena's wife, Meredith Lynn Recio and the boyfriend of the former Trevena employee broke into the Trevena law firm. They stole a check which they forged and cashed for $8,500 dollars. Trevena told police that they also stole a .44 caliber handgun. Tevena's wife and her friend were booked into the Pinellas County jail.[21]

gollark: I tried gsubbing them to `\0` but that broke decoding somehow.
gollark: Because of all the `\000`s being quite long.
gollark: It *is* used, it just doesn't *help*.
gollark: On the plus side, this is much better for bundling, except that the compression does not actually compress.
