Jill Leovy

Jill Leovy is an American journalist and nonfiction writer.[1] She is best known for Ghettoside: A True Story of Murder in America, her award-winning 2015 book about homicide in Los Angeles.[2] Ghettoside was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award.[3] It won the gold medal for nonfiction at the 85th Annual California Book Awards.[4] It also won the Rindehour Book Prize.

Leovy spent 24 years as a reporter and editor for The Los Angeles Times.[5] She was let go in 2017.[6]

Leovy has contributed to The New York Times, The Washington Post, and The Chicago Tribune.[7]

She is a Senior Fellow at USC's Annenberg Center on Communication Leadership & Policy.[8] She is also a fellow of the Department of Sociology at Harvard.
