Jesse Palter

Jesse Palter (born in Detroit, MI) is an American singer-songwriter. Palter's work ranges from pop to jazz, with multiple areas in between. Jesse is signed to Mack Avenue Records.[1] She released her debut album, "Paper Trail", July 19th 2019[2]. That same month, "Paper Trail" was named LA Weekly Album Of The Week, stating "Palter takes us on a real journey — one minute she sounds like she’s wailing the title track to a Disney adventure that hasn’t been made yet, the next she could be sat alone in a coffee shop open house. That mix of majesty and intimacy makes for a winning formula." [3]

Biography

Palter was born[4] in Detroit, Michigan to a musical family, and raised in the suburb of West Bloomfield.[5] It has been noted that Palter was "singing before she could talk". Palter began piano lessons at the age of 7 and spent her earlier years immersed in musical theater. Palter attended a middle school that specialized in the performing arts, where she began to write music and also learned to play the Oboe and then the trumpet. Palter attended The University of Michigan in Ann Arbor [6] as a Jazz & Contemplative Studies Major.

Career

Palter began singing at a young age, performing in theater productions as a middle-school student. At age 13, Palter began to write her own music and was connected with legendary singer/songwriter/producer Andrew Gold.[7] Palter went to Nashville to collaborate on original material with Gold and put together a demo which garnered interest from various labels. Around age 15, she began working with the Grammy Award-winning production duo the Bass Brothers, known primarily for their work with Eminem.[8]

She launched her jazz career as a teenager, performing in Detroit area clubs including The Firefly Jazz Club in Ann Arbor (now defunct), and Baker's Keyboard Lounge and Cliff Bell's, both in Detroit.[9]

Palter released her debut album, I'm Beginning to See the Light in 2006,[10] for which she was awarded a Detroit Music Award for Best Jazz Album.[11]

In 2009 Palter co-founded, along with pianist Sam Barsh, the electronic pop group Jesse Palter and the Alter Ego, later renamed Palter Ego.[12] The group has released 2 EPs and two albums.

Palter relocated to Los Angeles in 2010 to further pursue her career as a writer and performer.

On October 19th 2018, Palter released a 5 song ep on the Artistry Music division of Mack Avenue Records. With The Paper Trail EP, Palter has committed herself to the discipline of perfecting the craft of songwriting. She focused on strengthening her creative muscles to discover what melodies, lyrics and chord changes work best, allowing herself to be vulnerable, brave and brutally honest at the same time. The songs are autobiographical, representing her life and what's she's been through. In early 2019, Artistry Music will follow up The Paper Trail EP with the single "Sever The Ties" and a full-length debut album.[13]

Palter has been nominated for 9 Detroit Music Awards, of which she has won 6.
