Early life and education

Jennifer Hyman grew up in New Rochelle, New York, and attended New Rochelle High School. She received her BA in social sciences from Harvard University in 2002.[1]

She later attended Harvard Business School, where she met co-founder of Rent the Runway Jennifer Fleiss, and graduated with an MBA in 2009.[2]

Career

In November 2008, Hyman first had the idea for Rent the Runway after watching her sister agonize over buying an expensive outfit for a wedding.[3] Hyman co-founded Rent the Runway in 2009.

Hyman participates in national conferences and panel discussions regarding topics covering the economy, women in business and company culture. Some of her past speaking engagements include NRF Foundation's "Retail’s Big Show"[4] WWD's Digital Forum[5] and the 99U Conference.[6]

Hyman has spoken out publicly against sexual harassment in the tech industry and went public with her own experience on CNBC's Squawk Alley in July 2017.[7]

In May 2018, Hyman published a New York Times op-ed titled "Treating Workers Fairly at Rent the Runway," in which she announced that the company would equalize benefits across its salaried and hourly employees. RTR team members in the company's warehouse and stores and on its customer service team receive the same parental leave, family sick leave, bereavement leave and sabbatical packages as the company's corporate employees.[8]

Hyman serves on the Board of Directors of the Estée Lauder Companies,[9] and on the Women.nyc Advisory Board.[10]

Honors

Hyman was listed in Fortune magazine's 40 Under 40 in 2012.[11]

gollark: I could play osmarks internet radio™ instead.
gollark: Yes, it's mandatory.
gollark: No, I'm just using some audio routing hax™ to play https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQPncqz6PoI into voice chat.
gollark: This is NOT true. I have not in any way been sponsored by pizza companies. There have been no advertising agreements whatsoever with any companies producing pizza or otherwise to have me subliminally advertise pizza, as my profile picture is not a pizza. Since it is not a pizza, this is obviously not pizza advertisement whatsoever. No monetary exchanges or otherwise have occurred with companies engaged in pizza production for any reason relating to my profile picture. You are clearly engaged in libel and attempting to discredit my non-pizza-advertising status. It is IN NO WAY subliminal pizza advertising because I DO NOT work for pizza companies in any form. It's not pizza. There were no deals, under-the-table or otherwise, with pizza companies. No pizza companies pay for any kind of subliminal advertising involving me. People make that mistake, but I am not working for pizza companies doing subliminal advertising; that is not in any way what I am doing. I am NOT being sponsored by ANY pizza companies to display subliminal pizza advertising OF ANY KIND.
gollark: I am engaging in music.
