Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Pfukhro Mao
Jnv Pfukhro Mao is one of the nine Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas established in nine different districts of Manipur. It is situated in the hills of Pfukhro village, Mao. It is run by Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, New Delhi, an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, within the Department of Education in the Government of India. The Samiti is further sub-divided into regions. JNV Pfukhro Mao is in the Shillong region, which is the operating centre for all the JNVs in the Northeastern India. Similar to other JNVs, it is fully residential and co-educational school affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi, with classes from VI to XII. JNVs are specifically tasked with finding talented children in rural areas of India and providing them with an education equivalent to the best residential school system, without regard to their family's socio-economic condition.

JNVs exist all over India, with the exception of Tamil Nadu. There are approximately 596 JNVs across India (one school per district) as of 2014.
History
The school was established in the year 1987. It is a co-educational school and offers education in English.
Location
It is located at the border of Manipur and Nagaland. The locality is surrounded by various hill ranges and rich flora and fauna. The whole campus is surrounded by forest, providing a perfect place for meditation and school activities without any external disturbances. Assam Rifle camp is just above the school compound.

Hostels
Hostels are divided on the basis of houses named as Nilgiri, Shiwalik, Aravali and Udaigiri and it is further sub-divided into senior and junior houses. Seniors are from class IX,X,XI,XII and juniors come from class VI,VII,VIII.
Cultural activities
It is the most important and interesting part of JNV MAO. All students wait eagerly for the cultural program. It includes various programs and events such as Hindi Diwas, Teachers Day, and cultural shows of different communities. Every morning assembly is held inside the MP HALL(Multipurpose Hall). The activities of morning assembly are very exciting, it includes pledge, thoughts, poems, quiz, sharing or news. These activities are carried out on the basis of senior houses and junior houses every week. Activities are to be done in English on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, and In Hindi On Thursday and Friday, and In Meitei on Saturday.
NCC and scouts
Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti is recognised as a state for scouting and guiding activities by the Bharat Scouts and Guides. Navodaya students regularly and actively participate in programmes of BSG. NCC is being introduced in JNVs in a phased manner. As part of NCC training, students of the JNV MAO attended several camps and excelled themselves. Every year NCC and Scouts cadet take parts in various activities with excellent dedication and achievements. One major centre for camp is located at DM College, Imphal.
National integration
With students across India, having different diversities and studying in different social and cultural environment, Navodayas serve as a good medium to exchange cultural diversities between students of different vidyalayas. There is a system of migration which means students of one vidyalaya can go ahead and study in other vidyalayas depending on which stream he/she opts for. Thus promoting national integration as well as enhancing social and cultural relationships.
Sports
JNV Mao provides opportunities for students to actively take part in various sports. Each year sports competition is held where sports lover can excel their skills and this competition is held in different levels i.e. cluster level, regional level and national level. Also students who perform well in national level can take part in SGFI (School Games Federation of India). Major sporting events includes Basketball, Volleyball, Football, Khokho, Shooting, Table Tennis, Badminton, Chess, Athlete etc.
