Jason Beckfield

Jason Beckfield is an American academic. He is a professor of Sociology and the chair of the Sociology department at Harvard University.

Early life

Jason Beckfield grew up in Joplin, Missouri and graduated from Truman State University.[1][2] He earned a PhD from Indiana University Bloomington.[2]

Career

Beckfield was an assistant professor of Sociology at the University of Chicago from 2004 to 2007.[2] He joined Harvard University as assistant professor in 2007, and became a tenured professor in 2011.[2] He is also the department chair.[1] Additionally, he is an affiliate scholar of the Stanford Center on Poverty & Inequality at Stanford University.[3]

His research focuses on social inequality, especially in the European Union.[1][2] He has also written about world polity theory.[2][4]

Personal life

With Jocelyn Viterna, who is also a Sociology professor at Harvard, Beckfield has two children.[1][2]
