The photographer finds his roots in classical documentary photography, which he then poetically twists to create his own personal narrative that expands the realms of fact and fiction.[2] Investigating everyday life from several angles, he manages to connect private thoughts with the outside world, mixing the local and the global. The diary-like sequences of his ongoing series My Weather Diary (2001-) serve as telling interludes in a personal narrative.[2] Those captured photographic moments carry their own storyline that he then joins with notes in calligraphy which he wrote by hand on top of the completed print: this hand-written text adds both a nostalgic tone and a special value to what was said. Along with the location, he describes a mood, the day's most memorable political world news or an event from his personal life.[3]

Silomäki gives the viewer both a possibility of sharing his private experiences in the landscape where he was that day and a possibility of a collective experience by registering world-political events that the viewer remembers, too.[1]

gollark: For what?
gollark: They literally cost more than my (low-end, yes) *smartphone*.
gollark: Ah yes, buying a calculator which costs more than a phone.
gollark: That would be not uncool.
gollark: Unless you make it basically just a low-power portable computer with a keyboard and stuff.
