Jared Redick

Jared Redick is a retired American ballet dancer, teacher, and has been the Interim Dean of the School of Dance at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA) since 2020.[1]

Early life

Redick was born in Baltimore, Maryland. His grandmother, Alicia Kish Reisz, was a Hungarian Prima Ballerina. His mother, Julia Cziller-Redick, escaped Hungary with Reisz during the Hungarian Revolution of 1956. [2] Cziller-Redick is Artistic Director Emeritus at Reston Conservatory Ballet in Reston, Virginia.[3] Darren Redick, Jared’s brother, was also a professional ballet dancer before becoming a presenter with Planet Rock Radio.[4] Both are alumni of the University of North Carolina School of the Arts in ballet.[5]

Professional Career

Redick graduated from UNCSA in 1989 and went on to train at Mikhail Baryshnikov’s School of Classical Ballet in New York. During his career, he was a soloist with the Miami City Ballet, the Texas Ballet Theatre, San Francisco Ballet, the Suzanne Farrell Ballet, and the Boston Ballet. In 2009, he retired from performing.[6]

A recipient of the National Foundation for the Advancement in the Arts award for exceptional artistic achievement, Redick is also an Associate fellow at Pierson College at Yale University. He has been a master teacher and juror at the Youth American Grand Prix since 2013.[7] Redick served in the role of guest ballet master at the Nashville Ballet, Houston Ballet, Cincinnati Ballet, and the Finnish National Ballet.

In 2013, Redick was named Assistant Dean of Ballet at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts under Dean Susan Jaffe.[8] He was artistic director of the school’s annual production of the Nutcracker for six years, which was named one of the nation’s best productions by Dance Teacher Magazine.[9] In addition to serving as Assistant Dean of Ballet, Redick was an Associate Professor of Ballet at UNCSA until his appointment as Interim Dean of the School of Dance in 2020. [10]
