Half-length portrait of Gustaaf Willem Baron van Imhoff (1705ā€“1750), Governor from 1743 to 1750, from a collection of portraits of governors of the former Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia) owned by the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam.

Biography

Quinkhard was born in the town of Rees, near Cleves. He was a Dutch painter and scholar of his father (the painter Julius Quinkhardt the elder), Arnold van Boonen, Christoffel Lubinietski, and Nikolaas Verkolje. He painted familiar, allegorical, and mythological subjects, and was excellent in portraits, of which he painted a great number. Five good examples are in the Amsterdam Museum.[1] His son Julius (1736-1776) was instructed by his father, but abandoned art for commerce. Two pictures by him are in the Amsterdam Museum. He also collaborated with Jacobus Houbraken and other leading engravers on prints of the rich and famous of Amsterdam.[2]

[3] His pupils were Jurriaan Andriessen, Ludolf Backhuijzen (II), Jan de Beijer, Johannes Cornelis Mertens, his son Julius Henricus Quinkhard, Tibout Regters, Izaak Schmidt, Adriaan Schregardus, Jan Stolker, Johannes Verrier, Pieter Wagenaar (II), and Jan Gerard Waldorp.[3] He died, aged 84, at Amsterdam.

gollark: On x86 platforms, you can have a live USB stick and boot that on basically any recent x86 PC and it will probably work fine apart from hardware accelerated graphics, some networking hardware, and whatnot.
gollark: I generally like simpler things. Also, less attack surface.
gollark: I mean, admittedly being CISC is better in some ways and RISC is worse in others, but I kind of prefer RISC.
gollark: ARM positives:- originally more riscy- more implementations- better power efficiencyARM negatives:- literally has a JS floating point conversion instruction???- horrendous software compatibility; most Android devices run ancient kernels with weird device-specific patches and can never be updated, the bootloaders are weird and inconsistent- now very CISC anyway
gollark: Yes, x86 sort of bad, ARM also horrible in similar ways.
