Jan Chełmiński
Jan Chełmiński nom de plume Jan van Chelminski (1851–1925), born Jan Władysław Chełmiński, was a Polish painter, who was born in Brzustów (27 January 1851) and entered the Munich Academy of Fine Arts on 14 April 1875 (Register: 3144). He worked throughout Europe and lived in New York from 1895, though he took British nationality. He was married twice, and after divorcing his first wife Marie Henschel (1858–?), he married Leonie Knoedler, the sister of Roland Knoedler, the famous art dealer Knoedler in New York. He was best known in his lifetime for his historical works, especially those dealing with military history and the Napoleonic Wars.[1][2]
