James Basson
James Basson is a British born garden designer and gardener based in the South of France.
He specialises in dry, sustainable gardens that are inspired by his passion for the natural landscape. He is known for using natural materials and local artisans. He graduated from the University of Greenwich with a First class honours degree in Garden Design in 1998 and shortly after moved to the South of France where he set up his practice Scape Design with his wife Helen. He is a registered member of the Society of Garden Designers (SGD) in the UK and of the Fédération Française de Paysage (FFP) He has won numerous awards at Garden Shows throughout the world with Gold Medals at the Gardening World Cup in Japan, the Singapore Garden Festival, the Philadelphia Flower Show and the Chelsea Flower Show. James has spoken at conference in Singapore and will be at the Australian Landscape conference in September 2015.
He has published papers on a generative approach to Garden Design, and is constantly developing a matrix form of planting design to help increase the viability of ecological planting schemes. Basson spends his time studying natural landscapes with a particular penchant for the Mediterranean flora, natural hard materials and seasonal variation.[1][2][3][4] [5][6][7]
