Musical career

Alvarez was born in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico. His mother and father are both from the Dominican Republic. When Alvarez was 12 years old he sang in front of several of his classmates and teachers, his first ever song "Lo Que Ella Trae" (What She Brings). He listened to many artists from the reggaeton genre, and paid much respect to artist Tego Calderon and Benji Gonzalez.[2] Then, through his cousin, he met with DJ Nelson, and a working chemistry soon emerged between the two. He was then signed to Flow Music in 2009. Later that year, his debut album El Dueño Del Sistema was released. A special edition was later released on January 7, 2010. Otro Nivel De Musica, his second studio album was released on September 20, 2011 and featured the hit single "La Pregunta". A special edition was later released on May 1, 2012, titled Otro Nivel De Musica Reloaded. This album was very well received among fans and was nominated for Best Urban Music Album at the 2012 Latin Grammy Awards.[3] On April 24, 2019, Alvarez headlined the Billboard Sounds Showcase in Las Vegas.[4][5]

"De Camino Pa' La Cima"

On February 18, 2015, he released his third studio album entitled De Camino Pa' La Cima, which would debut at #2 in its second week on Top Latin Albums.[6] It features collaborations from Mackie, Zion, and Daddy Yankee.

J Alvarez has more than 25 million followers on social media and has released the album in 2018 titled "La Fama Que Camina", singles from this album such as "Esa Boquita", which also has a remix with Zion y Lennox, Haters, and the single "De La Mia Personal". In November 2018, the Recording Industry Association of America certified that the single, "De La Mia Personal", had reached gold/platinum status.[7] J Alvarez tours Europe, Colombia, and the United States.[5]
