Jørn Skogheim

Jørn Skogheim (born July 16, 1970 in Sørreisa, Troms, Norway) is a Norwegian multi-instrumentalist musician and composer. He plays guitar,[1] clarinet and violin, and also composes, produces, and arranges music. He is also a master of whistling.

Career

Skogheim has played concerts and tours in Norway, Sweden, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Germany, also appearing on television and radio in Norway and the Baltic states. In Latvia and Estonia he met musicians from New York City, where he moved in autumn 1998 to work as a musician and composer. His performances include Jazzkaar in Tallinn (1998), Riga Jazz festival (1998, 1999, 2000 and 2001), Kaunas Jazz Festival (2000), Molde Jazz Festival (1998), Mandal Jazz Festival in Garching, Germany (2007), and New Music festival in Riga (1997).

Skogheim began contributing to records as a backing musician in 1994, and over the next few years he contributed to various other projects while working on his own compositions.

In autumn 2000 Skogheim released his first album, Joy, which featured many Latvian musicians, including Maris Briezkalns, Ivars Galenieks, Viktors Ritovs and Canadian saxophonist Nic Gotham. Skogheim had been travelling regularly to Latvia since 1997, and the record was heavily influenced by his interest in the country.

It was six years until Skogheim's second solo album, Above Water, released in January 2007 on Curling Legs Records. The record consisted of 14 compositions for jazz quartet, supplemented on some tracks by a string quartet and soloists. Contributing musicians included Trygve Seim and Bendik Hofseth. The music was inspired by the Inner Oslofjord, and written and arranged over three years.
