History

The first Islami Bishwakosh of Bangladesh project was launched by Bangla Academy. Dr Muhammad Shahidullah served as an editor for the project for a while.[2][3] In 1958, the Shorter Encyclopedia of Islam was published from Leiden and it was a translation. Work on the encyclopedia was later passed on to the Islamic Foundation Bangladesh for a number of reasons, from which it was later edited more and published.[4]

Whilst Abdul Haque Faridi was president of the encyclopedia's editorial board, 18 volumes were completed during his lifetime.

After the independence of Bangladesh in 1971, it was one of the three specialised encyclopedias that were published.[5] Dr AFM Khalid Husayn edited volumes 3 to 9 of the encyclopedia's second edition.[6]

gollark: Yes, you can just rethingy z in terms of x and y.
gollark: For the rogue/warrior/mage one, say, you can define all of it in terms of Cartesian X/Y or your apious space-filling curve, but it's convenient if you treat it as three separate levels of mageness, warriorness and rogueness which add to 1 or something.
gollark: But, like with cubical coordinates for hex grids, the third dimension is more convenient when doing some things.
gollark: They don't have three... I think the word is linearly independent dimensions, no.
