Irma Thesleff

Irma Thesleff is a Professor Emerita at the University of Helsinki.[1] Strome received a degree in dentistry from University of Helsinki and a Ph.D. in 1975, as well as post-graduate work at the National Institute of Dental Research, Bethesda. Thesleff has received several major science awards, served as president of the European Orthodontic Society and the Finnish Society for Developmental Biology. She is also an Academician of Science in Finland.

Thesleff's work is in mammalian organs, and she is best known for studies on tissue interactions regulating tooth formation. This research has clinical implications for the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of congenital defects.

Thesleff is a Foreign Associate of the United States National Academy of Sciences.[2]
