Irish Women's Suffrage Society

The Irish Women's Suffrage Society was an organisation for women's suffrage, founded by Isabella Tod as the North of Ireland Women's Suffrage Society in 1872. It changed its name in 1909. It was based in Belfast but had branches in other parts of the north of Ireland.[1]

Margaret McCoubrey (1880–1955) joined the society in 1910 and became an active militant.

A suffrage society was set up in Lisburn by Lillian Metge (1871-1954) and she was president and secretary at different times but left to become an active militant, from this grew the Irish Women's Franchise League under which was attempting in 1912 or so to join together different groups.[2]
