Irina Mataeva

Irina Mataeva (Russian: Ирина Матаева) is a Russian classical soprano soloist.

Mataeva was born in Tyumen and graduated from Saint Petersburg Conservatory in 1999.

Accomplishments
  • Prize winner at the All-Russian Gulyaev Opera Singers' Competition (Tyumen, 1997)
  • Prize winner at the VI International Rimsky-Korsakov Young Opera Singers' Competition (St Petersburg, 2000)
  • Soloist with the Mariinsky Academy of Young Singers since 1998
  • Mariinsky Theatre soloist since 2007

She has also performed as Prilepa (The Queen of Spades) in Los Angeles and as Micaëla (Carmen) with the Washington Opera under conductor Plácido Domingo. Mataeva made her debut at the Metropolitan Opera as Tatiana in Eugene Onegin. In 2005 she participated in a production of Henri Tomasi's Sampiero Corso at the Opéra de Marseille (performing as Vannina). She has given concerts in London, Milan, Bordeaux, Bruges, Biarritz, San Francisco and Buenos Aires (at Teatro Colón). She has toured with the Mariinsky Opera Company in Finland, China, the UK (at Royal Opera House), Germany, Italy (at La Scala), and the USA (at Metropolitan Opera).
