Instituto Nicaragüense de Telecomunicaciones y Correos (Nicaraguan Institute of Telecommunications and Postal Services, TELCOR) is the regulatory body of telecommunications and postal services in Nicaragua.[1][2] It serves the function of technical planning, supervision, application and control of compliance of the Laws and Norms that govern the installation, interconnection, operation, provision of Telecommunications Services and Postal Services.[3][4]

It was founded in 1982 during the government of Daniel Ortega in the Sandinista Revolution. The agency's current chairman is Orlando Castillo.[5]

TELCOR is responsible for the administration and regulation of the radio frequency spectrum, as well as granting a concession, license, permit or certificate of registration (in accordance with the law and other applicable legal provisions) to companies interested in providing telecommunications services or make use of radio spectrum frequencies.[6]

Objectives

  • Establish provisions and issue administrative acts that promote free competition, efficient and effective use of scarce resources and respect for the rights and duties of users and operators.
  • Ensure that operators and service providers comply with the legal and administrative provisions in force.
  • Promote and promote access to telecommunications services and information and communication technologies for the inhabitants of rural or low-income areas.
  • Achieve greater effectiveness, efficiency and transparency in the execution of functions and in the processes of institutional management.
  • Modernize and project the institution, and specialize and motivate the work team
