Function

The protein encoded by this gene is a serum protein that binds insulin-like growth factors, increasing their half-life and their vascular localization. Production of the encoded protein, which contains twenty leucine-rich repeats, is stimulated by growth hormone. Three transcript variants encoding two different isoforms have been found for this gene.[4]

Clinical significance

Defects in this gene are a cause of acid-labile subunit deficiency, which manifests itself in a delayed and slow puberty.

Interactions

IGFALS has been shown to interact with IGFBP3.[5][6]

gollark: What they probably *could* do but almost certainly won't (for a while (decades), anyway) is just replace the whole system with a google-only one and hope people use it.
gollark: What block of text?
gollark: Oh, and I think they own `.app` now, too.
gollark: I've heard of `.google` and of them offering domains and stuff.
gollark: Yes, 8.8.8.8/8.8.4.4.
