Hugh Ellis-Nanney

Sir Hugh John Ellis-Nanney, 1st Baronet, DL, JP (16 February 1845 – 7 June 1920) was a British landowner, magistrate and Conservative politician.

Ellis-Nanney was the only son of Owen Jones-Ellis-Nanney, DL, of Gwynfryn, by Mary Jones, eldest daughter and heiress of Hugh Jones, of Hengwrtucha, Merionethshire. He was a Justice of the Peace for Carnarvonshire and Merionethshire and a Deputy Lieutenant of Carnarvonshire[1] and served as High Sheriff of Caernarvonshire in 1870[2] and as High Sheriff of Merionethshire in 1877.[3] He stood unsuccessfully for Eifion in 1885 and for Carnarvon Boroughs in 1890 and 1895 (both times being defeated by David Lloyd George). He was created a baronet, of Gwynfryn in the Parish of Llanystumdwy in the County of Carnarvon and of Cefndeuddwr in the Parish of Trawsfynydd in the County of Merioneth, in 1898.[4]

Ellis-Nanney married the Honourable Elizabeth Octavia Dillon, daughter of Robert Dillon, 3rd Baron Clonbrock, in 1875. He died in June 1920, when the baronetcy became extinct. Lady Ellis-Nanney died in January 1928.[5]
