Professional career

After a try-out, Bates signed with the Washington Redskins on May 18, 2015.[1][2] Despite having a considerably strong preseason performance,[3][4] he was waived on September 5 for final roster cuts before the start of the regular season.[5] He signed to the team's practice squad the next day.[6] On September 12, the Redskins promoted Bates to the active roster,[7] but was waived on September 14.[8] He re-signed with the team's practice squad on September 16.[9] He was promoted again to the active roster on November 7 after Jackson Jeffcoat was placed on the team's injured reserve.[10]

On December 20, 2016, Bates was placed on the team's injured reserve after tearing his ACL the day before during a game against the Carolina Panthers.[11] He was waived following a failed physical on July 27, 2017.[12]

gollark: Did you know that basically *none* of them use IPv6?
gollark: But it's cool, I can get a snapshot of the general bot activity on the web!
gollark: Maybe if I send requests *constantly* at several hundred req/s they'll listen!
gollark: I imagine other people at least have things set up to view aggregated data from them to find problems.
