Himno de Aragón

The Himno de Aragón (Spanish pronunciation: [ˈimno ðe aɾaˈɣon], "Anthem of Aragon"), is the official anthem of the autonomous community of Aragon, in Spain. Its music, based on the oldest Aragonese musical tradition, was written by Aragonese composer Antón García Abril, with lyrics written by Aragonese poets Ildefonso Manuel Gil, Ángel Guinda, Rosendo Tello and Manuel Vilas. This anthem highlights values such as freedom, justice, reason, truth and open land, which have historically been associated with Aragonese as a people.

Its use was regulated by a 1989 Aragonese Act, which states that the Anthem of Aragon will be played in all relevant official public events organized by the autonomous community of Aragon, or other local level Aragonese administration. The Act also indicates that the Anthem can be sung in any of the languages of Aragon. However, the Act does not supply an official version of the lyrics in Aragonese or Catalan.

A different song, the Canto a la libertad ("Song for Freedom"), written by José Antonio Labordeta, is often regarded as the unofficial anthem of Aragon.

Lyrics of the Anthem of Aragon

Resplandece el tiempo;
English translation:
Time has taken us to the edge of dreams.
A new day spreads its wings from the sun.
Oh drums of the north wind, draw back the clouds,
and may (our) voice ascend to the heights.
The passing of the centuries marked out your destiny,
which calls you to justice and freedom.
Your fields, open to the sky, will sprout
with the green spike (of wheat), gold clusters (of grapes),
and the imperishable olive tree of peace.
Light of Aragon, tower in the wind, bell of solitude!
May your zeal spread, a river without bounds, your reason, your truth!
Victor over so much oblivion, memory of eternity,
a people of so many men and women, Aragon, you will live!
The time is shining;
The age arrives
for the rock to be flowing with water
to link our lives
and modulate our voices.
From the white peaks where snow is sleeping
to the red plains swayed by the blue air,
a clear sky kindles, its face in the water,
its crowns radiant with light.
Let us open the windows, so that the night may sing,
and to the rhythm of life, in a ring of love,
souls will embrace, caught by the dawn.
May hope shine, may the roads open out
into the land as serious as a heart.
Light of Aragon, tower in the wind, bell of solitude!
May your zeal spread, a river without bounds, your reason, your truth!
Victor over so much oblivion, memory of eternity,
a people of so many men and women, Aragon, you will live!
Open land, great people, Aragon!
My homeland, my homeland, Aragon!
