Biography

Vandermeeren studied psychology, which she taught for several years at High School level. Since 2001 she has published almost fifty books for children and young people, many of which have been translated. She has won a number of awards and prizes, including a Zilveren Griffel, a Boekenwelp and a White Raven from the International Youth Library. She has been a full-time author since 2006. She is also editor in chief of Kits, a Flemish newspaper for the 10+ age group published by De Eenhoorn. Her thriller Als alles duister wordt – When Darkness Descends was published in April 2013 by Q (part of the Singel Publishers Group) and was awarded the Knack Magazine Hercule Poirot Readers Prize in the same year. It was also longlisted for the Diamond Bullet in 2013. Q also published her psychological thrillers De toeschouwers – The Watchers in 2014, Stille grond - Silent Ground in 2015, and Scorpio in 2016. Silent Ground was shortlisted for the Golden Nose in 2016. That’s the annual award for the best crime novel in the Dutch language. Movie rights for Silent Ground are sold to Eyeworks Film & TV Drama (Belgium), a part of the international Eyeworks Group. Her short story The Lighthouse was published in the March/April 2016 edition of Ellery Queen’s Mystery Magazine.[1] The second short story Stranger in the Night was released in December 2016 in the same magazine. The Lighthouse has recently been shortlisted for the Derringer Award 2017 Best Short Story.[2][3] In 2017 Schemerzone was published and received the Hercule Poirot Prize for the best Flemish crime novel of the year.[4] It was also longlisted for the BookSpot Golden Nose in 2018.
