Hey (email service)

Hey is a premium email service launched by Basecamp in June 2020.[1][2][3][4] The service is accessed via the Hey website and via the dedicated Hey app for macOS, Windows, Linux, Android and iOS.[5][6] Due to the service's vertical integration, a Hey mailbox cannot be incorporated into other email services or stand-alone email clients.[7]

Around the time of Hey's launch, a stand-off with Apple Inc. over its policy on in-app purchases in apps hosted by its App Store, drew media attention to Apple's policies.[8][9][10][11]

Features

  • An email from a new sender requires the user confirm whether they wish to receive emails from that sender, and if not then emails from that sender are never shown again[6]
  • Blocks tracking pixels (called a spy tracker in the apps) and informs the user if an email includes tracking[6]
  • A single place showing all attachments that have been received, regardless of sender[6]
gollark: It MAY be some badness in python's async implementation, which is why RSAPI MAY be replaced with a "better" Rust/Lua one.
gollark: I thought it was due to something something websocket, but no, it breaks even without that.
gollark: I do this, except for the RSAPI doing the OIR now playing thing, which breaks at random for no comprehensible reason.
gollark: I took it from esobot.
gollark: This is why you should design your things to just operate eternally with no maintenence or effort.
