Biography

Henri Blanc-Fontaine wanted to do a legal career, but he followed Diodorus Rahoult's advice and went to Paris where he was a pupil of Léon Cogniet. He exhibited his genre paintings at the Salon (Paris). Landscapes became his favorite subject from 1870. Blanc-Fontaine was also the pupil of Jean Achard (he made a portrait of him which it kept in the Musée de Grenoble) and Auguste Ravier in Charlieu.

He was member of the painters group in Proveysieux and was related for a while to the École dauphinoise. His paintings can be seen at the Museum of Grenoble, the Musée dauphinois and the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Chambéry. His painting Souvenir de La Grave won an honorable distinction at the 1855 Exposition Universelle in Paris, and was noticed by Maxime Du Camp.
