Hendrick Munniks

Hendrick Munniks, Munnicks, or Munnekus (c1600 1664), was a Dutch Golden Age painter.

Biography

He was probably born in Utrecht where he appears in the archives under the name Munnekus or Munniks. He was a pupil of Abraham Bloemaert and Pauwel van Overbeeck, and became a master in the Utrecht Guild of Saint Luke in 1627 or 1633 and its dean in 1643.[1] The same year he moved to The Hague as court painter of Frederick Henry, Prince of Orange. [1] He is known for paintings in the manner of Caravaggio, and he may have died in the Hague, where he was last recorded as a member of the Confrerie Pictura in 1644.[1]

Among his famous paintings was a Venus image that was painted for Prince Frederick Henry's behalf, and a great starting the gathering of the Hague schutterij, sold at auction 1648.[1]

gollark: Anyway, I think the pinephone looks fine, it's pretty much "generic rounded rectangle with screen on the front".
gollark: What I *would* be interested in is some sort of low-power long-battery-life pocket computer with LoRa radios, an e-paper-ish visible-in-sunlight screen, and the ability to read text and type a bit.
gollark: Maybe when small-scale manufacturing improves.
gollark: Not currently.
gollark: Modems run weird proprietary code.
