He was a collegiate basketball player at Sacred Heart University and played on the Puerto Rico men's national basketball team from 1976 to 1984. He played professionally at the BSN league from 1974 to 1986 and 1990 to 991. He is the father of pro-golfer Janice Olivencia.[1]

Biography

Olivencia was born in the Bronx, New York City and attended DeWitt Clinton High School. He later attended Sacred Heart University on full scholarship. He was drafted in 1978 by the San Antonio Spurs and moved to Puerto Rico in 1974, at the age of 16, to pursue a basketball career. Olivencia initially retired from basketball in 1986, but made a return in 1990 and played again until 1991.

He played for the Criollos, Ponce Lions and Indios de Canóvanas, the latter with which he won national championships in 1983 and 1984, in a team that included Angelo Cruz, Bernardo Figueroa, Ramon Ramos, Charlie Bermudez and Felix Rivera, among others.

After basketball

Olivencia began working as an accountant for Pfizer, a pharmaceutical company, in 1987 and has worked there, as of 2018, for 30 years, including in 1990 and 1991, when he combined his two professions, as a professional basketball player and accountant, at the same time.[1]
