Coaching career

After retiring from playing first-class cricket matches in 1996, he went onto become a cricket coach and a mentor to school boy cricketers in Sri Lanka as well as in Australia where he served as the coach of the Wynnum Manly District Cricket Club and the women cricketers at the Valley District Cricket Club. He was a junior level coach from 1996 to 2001 for his own school, Saint Joseph's College, Colombo, and became a professional school cricket coach for St. Joseph's College in 2001. He is also known for mentoring some of the current Sri Lankan international cricketers including Angelo Mathews, Thisara Perera and Dimuth Karunaratne.[2]

He had a spell as head coach of the Sri Lanka women's team between 2010 and 2013. On 8 August 2018, after a five-year gap, he was reappointed as the head coach of the women's team by Sri Lanka Cricket,[3][4] after the resignation of previous coach Hemantha Devapriya.[5][6]

gollark: Android is a particularly great example of why modern computing is horrific, as I have previously complained about here: https://discord.com/channels/424394851170385921/645777807275851776/829027001557057608.
gollark: I mostly run dubious unofficial LineageOS builds.
gollark: General-purpose user-reprogrammable computing is slowly dying out and it isn't possible to do very much about it.
gollark: Inb4 your eyes automatically filter out any content someone deems objectionable and you can't change it because something something "trusted computing".
gollark: Important internet infrastructure was designed and put into production last millennium when people assumed private networks and just ignored security concerns, and we still run it, sometimes with patches for the bigger problems which aren't actually anywhere near universally deployed.
