HMS Polecat (1782)
HMS Polecat was the merchant brig Navarre, which the British purchased at Boston in 1782 for £1097 3s 5d and converted to a 14-gun brig-sloop. She was initially under the command of Lieutenant Edmund Nagle,[1] but Lieutenant the Honourable Patrick Napier succeeded him.[2][3] Two French frigates chased her off the coast of Virginia on 31 July 1782; Émeraude effected the actual capture.[4] Her subsequent disposition is unknown.[5]

gollark: Do we actually have sufficient information or ability to do that?
gollark: Inasmuch as distancing can still make fewer people get affected, or spread it out more.
gollark: That is a very, very big if, and I don't think your conclusion follows from that in any case.
gollark: The first one is meant as a hierarchy of arguments, the second one is meant to be of disagreements themselves.
gollark: Also this.
