Musical career

Beginnings and band

Gyidi first stepped into the music industry as one of the four-member music band X4G.[3][4] The group released their first single in July 2012, titled I’m for God, which begun to make waves shortly as Christian hip hop was gaining traction in Ghana at the time.[5] The group went ahead to release three other singles shortly after and debuted their album in 2013 and a sophomore in 2016.[6] The group performed across platforms in Ghana including the National Theatre for On-Point 2013 whiles holding two concerts, Xmas Get2Geda in 2015 and seleXion in 2016.[7]

Solo and Believe EP

Gyidi's first single outside of the band was Grateful, which featured on the band's second album.[8] It was followed by Acoustic videos, then another single PhD (featuring AVMB).[9] In 2017, he released You Got It, a refix of Runtown’s Mad Over You.[10] Gyidi's debut project, the Believe EP[11] which was launched in April 2018 was a compilation of songs he has released over the years 2017 and 2018.[12]

Fire

Gyidi had the chance of working along with M.anifest on the remix of his track titled Fire[13] through the Empawa Africa Project by Mr. Eazi.

Performances

Gyidi, aside band performances has performed on various stages. In 2018, he performed at the Golden Movie Awards as one out of two artistes who were given the opportunity to perform through a poll conducted by the event on their website.[14]

Artistry

Influences

Gyidi's cites artist like M.anifest and Sarkodie as fellow acts that have inspired his work from their ethics but denies influence of their act.[4] Gyidi admits his music is derived from personal experiences and his desire to change society through art.[6][15]

Music style

Gyidi boasts of a raspy yet unique voice. His music is sung mostly in Pidgin and sometimes the Ga and Twi dialect of Ghana. Gyidi's art and genre of music, though experimental, stems dominantly from Afrobeats, notable on his EP, Believe.[16]
