Grind (sport)

Grinding is a sliding stunt performed in many extreme sports. Stances in which slides are performed are known as grinds.

Grinding is performed by sliding across the top of an obstacle, such as a ramp or a rail, and can be accomplished in a number of ways. A range of equipment can be used to grind an object or obstacle and each sport lends the performer different options of obstacles and subsequent grind positions. Each grind position is considered its own trick or maneuver and carries their own respective names. Some examples of generic grind position names are as follows; Board Slide, 50-50, and back lip. If the athlete executing the maneuver decided to lean into the grind while creating flex in the board, or equipment, the grind may be described as a "press". In most of the sports listed below, a press is considered a stylish maneuver.
