Some taxonomic authorities (including the American Ornithological Society) consider the cinnamon-sided hummingbird (Leucolia wagneri) conspecific.

Distribution and habitat

Distribution

It is found in Mexico and western Guatemala. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry forest, subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest, subtropical or tropical dry shrubland, and subtropical or tropical high-altitude shrubland.
