Greater Amman Municipality
Greater Amman Municipality is the arm of local government responsible for the administration of the Jordanian capital of Amman.[1]

History

Portrait of Ismael Babouk who was elected as the first mayor of Amman in 1909, a Circassian aristocrat.
First municipal council in Amman was established in 1909 under the Ottoman Empire. The local inhabitants elected Ismael Babouk, a Circassian aristocrat, for the mayorship position.
The current mayor of GAM is Yousef Shawarbeh who was appointed to the position in 2017.
