Reception

Girlpool's eponymous EP received generally favorable reviews from critics, with a weighted average score of 79 on Metacritic.[6] In his review of this EP, Chris Conaton compared their sound to "an angrier, socially conscious Kimya Dawson."[7]

Before the World Was Big also received generally favorable reviews from critics, with a 79 out of 100 score on Metacritic.[8] For example, Pitchfork Media's Jayson Greene gave it a score of 7.8 out of 10 and described it as "a quiet album of uncommon intensity."[9]

Their second LP, Powerplant, received an 8.3 by Jillian Mapes on Pitchfork. Mapes described their new sounds as "echoing second-wave emo sourness (“Your Heart”), Britpop jangle (“She Goes By”), and classic alt-rock loud-quiet-loudness throughout".[10]

gollark: Also, my *server* has a HDD, although I guess the DB is tiny and will likely just be cached in memory.
gollark: I am not worried about latency as much as throughput.
gollark: Okay, just run the function with some kind of fake message events, at, say, 100 message/s volume (that's the likely maximum...) and see if it explodes.
gollark: Wait, no, this can actually be benchmarked if you can... send fake messages somehow, hmmm.
gollark: æ.
