Gerardo Arteaga

Gerardo Daniel Arteaga Zamora (born 7 September 1998) is a Mexican professional footballer who plays as a full-back for Belgian Pro League club Genk.

Club career

Youth career

Arteaga joined Santos Laguna youth academy in 2013. He then continued through Santos Laguna Youth Academy successfully going through U-15, U-17, and U-20. Until finally breaking thorough to the first team, José Manuel de la Torre being the coach promoting Arteaga to first team.[2]

Santos Laguna

On 1 October 2016 Arteaga made his professional debut in the Liga MX against Querétaro F.C. ending in a 1–1 draw.[3]

Genk

On 26 July 2020, Santos Laguna announced the departure of Arteaga to Belgian club Genk for a reported fee of €3.5 million on a 5-year contract.[4]

International career

Mexico U-21

Arteaga was included in the final roster that participated at the 2018 Toulon Tournament.[5] He would go on to appear in all five matches, as Mexico would go to the final against England, where Mexico lost 2–1.[6]

Mexico national football team

He was called up by interim manager Ricardo Ferretti for September friendlies against Uruguay and the United States.[7] He made his senior debut against the United States, where Mexico lost 0–1.[8]
