Fundile Gade

Fundile David Gade (born 11 October 1968) is a South African educator and politician from the Eastern Cape. He has served as the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Education since May 2019 and has been a Member of the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature since May 2014. Gade was previously the chairperson of the legislature's Portfolio Committee on Education and chief whip of the African National Congress (ANC) caucus.[1]

Biography

Gade is a native of Dutywa. He worked as a teacher before becoming active in politics. He joined the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature as an ANC representative following the May 2014 general election. He was first appointed the Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Education and then became the chief whip of the ANC caucus following a swop with incumbent Zolile Mrara in February 2018.[2]

Gade was re-elected as an MPL in the May 2019 election and took office for his second term on 22 May. Premier Oscar Mabuyane appointed him MEC for Education on 28 May, succeeding Mlungisi Mvoko. He was inaugurated on 29 May and currently serves in the position.[3][4][5]

Gade is unmarried and has five children.
