Early life
Mr Frederick Hamilton was a Member of Parliament from 1707 to 1715 for Donegal County, the same constituency his father had represented. In 1707 he entered as a replacement for Henry Conyngham (soldier),[6] who had been killed in the Battle of St Estevan of the War of the Spanish Succession.[7] Frederick was reelected for that same seat in the parliaments of 1713–1714[8] and 1715–1727[9] He sat in that latter parliament until his death in 1715.
In 1710 Mr Hamilton was appointed Vice-Admiral of Ulster.[10]
Marriage and children
On 1 September 1707, Mr Hamilton married Sophia Hamilton, daughter of James Hamilton of Tollymore and sister of James Hamilton, 1st Earl of Clanbrassil (second creation).[11]
Frederick and Sophia had four children, two sons:
- Gustavus (1710–1746), succeeded his grandfather as Viscount Boyne;
- James (died 1740), lieutenant in the navy;
—and two daughters:
- Anne (born 1712), died young; and
- Elizabeth (born 1715), died young.
Death, succession, and timeline
Frederick Hamilton died on 10 December 1715[12] predeceasing his father, Gustavus Hamilton, 1st Viscount Boyne, by eight years. At the time of Frederick's death his father had just been ennobled as Baron Stackallan and was not yet Viscount Boyne. Frederick therefore died as an heir apparent without a courtesy title. His father was succeeded by Frederick's son Gustavus as the 2nd Viscount Boyne.[13]
