Frank J. Mrvan

Frank John Mrvan (born April 16, 1969) is an American politician from the state of Indiana. He is a township trustee for North Township, Indiana and the Democratic Party nominee for Indiana's 1st congressional district in the 2020 elections.

Early life and education

Mrvan was born and raised in Hammond, Indiana. After graduating from Oliver P. Morton High School, Mrvan earned a bachelor's degree in journalism from Ball State University.[1]

Career

Before entering local politics, Mrvan worked as a licensed mortgage broker and pharmaceutical sales representative.[2]

In November 2005, Mrvan was appointed as a township trustee for North Township, Indiana, when his predecessor resigned.[3] After Pete Visclosky, the incumbent member of the United States House of Representatives in Indiana's 1st congressional district, decided not to run for reelection in the 2020 elections, Mrvan announced his candidacy.[4] Mrvan received endorsements from Visclosky and the local chapter of the United Steelworkers.[5] He won the Democratic Party nomination with 34% of the vote in a field of 14 candidates, including Thomas McDermott Jr. and Mara Candelaria Reardon. He will face Republican Mark Leyva in the November general election.[6][7]

Personal life

Mrvan and his wife, Jane, have two children.[8] His father, Frank Mrvan, is a longtime member of the Indiana Senate.[9]
