Fernando De Almeida Vasconcellos

Fernando De Almeida Vasconcellos (29 December 1919 - November 1996) was a Brazilian chess player. He was a Brazilian Chess Championship silver medalist (1950).

Biography

Fernando De Almeida Vasconcellos has participated in twelve Brazilian Chess Championships (1948-1985) and won a silver medal in 1950.[1] In 1951, he represented Brazil in World Chess Championship South America Zonal tournament.

Fernando played for Brazil in the Chess Olympiad:[2]

In 1977, Fernando won the Brasília City Chess Championship. In 1989, he won the Brazilian Senior Chess Championship.

In 1952-1954 Fernando led the chess department in the newspaper Diário de Notícias and was co-editor of the chess magazine Chess Carioca.

He developed and actively applied in the later tournaments the Chess opening: 1. Nf3 Nf6 2. a4.
