Maurizio Merli and Joan Collins star in this Italian crime drama from the late seventies. Merli had made several international movies but was primarily known for his roles in Italian thrillers, whilst Collins had been a leading film actress since the early 1950s.
In a 1979 interview, Merli stated that working with Joan Collins was great fun and that not only was she very professional and easy to work with but that his favorite drink was Cinzano, the spiced Italian wine which Collins and Leonard Rossiter advertised in a long running series of commercials. Merli died in 1989 of myocardial infarction at the age of 49.
At the time the film was made, Joan Collins' career was experiencing something of a resurgence. With the huge success of The Stud and The Bitch, Collins found herself enjoying a second taste of major stardom. Not long afterwards, television mogul Aaron Spelling cast her as Cleopatra in his hit television show Fantasy Island, and subsequently chose her to play Alexis Carrington in his then-faltering television series Dynasty. Her enormous worldwide popularity as Alexis turned Collins into a true television superstar and lead to many other career opportunities.
While some dismiss Fearless as schlock, Collins' performance lifts the material from mundane to eminently watchable, if only to admire her age-defying beauty. Though by no means an outstanding film it is adequate to pass a Sunday afternoon enjoyably.
