Fairline Yachts Ltd.

Fairline Yachts Ltd.[1] is a British manufacturer of motor yachts. The company was launched on 26 January 2016 when its owners purchased the assets of Fairline Boats which went into administration in December 2015. Fairline Yachts' headquarters and manufacturing facility is in Oundle, Northamptonshire. In December 2017, it was announced that a new manufacturing facility in Hythe, Hampshire,[2] had been purchased by the boat yard and that boats over 60 feet would be produced there.

History

In January 2016, Alexander Volov and Igor Glyanenko, UK-based Russian businessmen, purchased the assets of Fairline Boats for around £4 million. Fairline Yachts Ltd's new managing director, Russell Currie, announced a reduction in the workforce from the previous 466 to "around 100".[3]

Key developments

In March 2015, Fairline Yachts completed its first build, a Targa 48GT, for a UK customer.[4]

In May 2016, Fairline Yachts announced it had employed its 100th staff member.[5]

In May 2016, Fairline Yachts announced a partnership with the superyacht designer Alberto Mancini and the naval engineers Vripack to work on the design of the future Fairline model range.[6]

At the Cannes Yachting Festival in September 2017, Fairline Yachts launched the first fully Mancini designed boat, the Targa 63 GTO. This was the first of the new generation of models from Fairline Yachts, aptly launched during Fairline's "golden year" with the brand celebrating 50 years of boat building throughout the year. This new model was announced as the winner of the best exterior design in the 50-80ft yachts category at the highly coveted World Yachts Trophies, the annual "Oscars" of the yachting industry, held during Cannes Yachting Festival.

In December 2017, Fairline Yachts announced it had taken possession of a five-acre (20,000 sq metre) waterside location in Hythe near Southampton. It expected to launch the new facility and begin boat building on the south coast in late summer 2018. Boats over 60ft will be built at the new site in Hythe with testing, commissioning and customer handover also taking place there. Located on Southampton Water, the facility has large vessel deep water berths and over 200,000 sq feet (18,000 sq metres) of undercover manufacturing space. It was expected that the new facility would initially create up to 200 jobs in the Southampton area.[2]

In September 2018, the company launched the Targa 43 Open, which was awarded "Best Exterior Design" at the World Yacht Trophies.[7] In 2019, Targa 43 Open was a winner in the Motor Boats Awards in the category "Sportscruiser up to 45ft".[8]

gollark: That's an odd way to pass arguments which should probably be a table.
gollark: Yes they are. It would be fiddly, but possible.
gollark: You could do it by adding some new FS functions and patching the existing ones, sure.
gollark: Skynet uses it a bit stupidly by redownloading it every run, I must say, and I may need to fix that.
gollark: It's actually just a random CBOR library from the internet (well, the only pure Lua one I could find).
